Hall of Fame
A native of York and a 1979 graduate of West York High School, Tim Ebersole was one of the finest football players to ever attend Shippensburg University. A quarterback, he led the Red Raiders to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) football championship in 1981 with an 11-0 record. The team advanced to the NCAA Division II tournament, beat Virginia Union 40-27 in the quarterfinals and then lost 18-6 to North Dakota State in the semifinals.
Ebersole was an honorable mention All-American player in 1981 and 1982 and was PSAC and ECAC Player of the year in 1981. He was All-PSAC and All-ECAC first team in 1982. He is the only Shippensburg player to earn ECAC Player of the Year honors.
One of the most exciting players for fans to watch, by his graduation, Ebersole broke or tied 31 total offense and passing school records. His 1981 59.9 completion percentage and NCAA rating of 156.1, still university records, nationally ranked hi third in passing efficiency.
For his career Ebersole completed 345 passes in 623 attempts (55.4 percent) for 4658 yards and 45 touchdowns. He also rushed for an additional 531 yards and 12 touchdowns to raise his total offense figure to 5,189.
During 1981 he completed 10 of 12 passes in a 26-3 win at Indiana and he ran for one touchdown and passed for five TDs in Shippensburg’s 49-28 win at C.W.Post. He completed 14 of 21 passes for 238 yards in the 33-27 win over James Madison. In NCAA quarterfinals he ran for two TDs and passed for two in Shippensburg’s 40-27 win over Virginia Union. He had 270 yards in that game.
In addition to his football exploits, Ebersole lettered in baseball in the spring of 1980 as a reserve catcher. He batted .357 and in nine games Ebersole had five hits in 14 at-bats with five RBIs. He had a 1,000 fielding percentage. In 1983, Ebersole lettered in golf.
Following graduation Ebersole was an assistant football coach and head baseball coach at Lebanon Valley College. He also was head football coach at Westminster High School in Maryland in 1995.
Tim also served as interim director of alumni affairs at Shippensburg University.
