John Doub was the first Shippensburg University runner to earn All-American honors.  He also was the first Red Raider to qualify to compete at the NCAA Division I national championships in both cross country and track.

During his junior year, he was an All-American at the NCAA Division II national championships in the fall of 1977. He finished fifth at the NCAA Division II track and field national championships in the 10,000 meter run.

The following season again earned the All-American honors by finishing sixth at the NCAA Division II cross country championships. During track season he finished second in the 10,000 meter run at the Penn Relays with a school record time of 29:23.05, one of the top 25 times by an American under the age of 21 that year. His time in 10,000 meter still stands at the Shippensburg record.

Later in the season, he won both the 5,000 and 10,000 at the Pennsylvania Conference championships and then he placed fourth at the NCAA Division II national championships to earn All- American honors again. He went on to compete at the Division I meet.

Since graduation, Doub continued to run and was ranked among the top 200 road racers in the nation according to Runner Magazine. His accomplishments include victories in the Harrisburg Marathon in 1982 and the Virginia Beach Marathon with a time of 2:19.46.  He also qualified for the Olympic Trials in 1980.
