Ken Miller was one of Shippensburg’s top basketball players in the mid-sixties. A native of Harrisburg and a graduate of John Harris High School, Miller played a key role on the Red Raiders 1963 team which finished the season with a 15-7 record and challenged for top honors in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Shippensburg upset defending NCAA College Division champion in Mt. St. Mary’s that year.
Miller broke the school record for most rebounds in a single game with 32 vs. the University of Baltimore in 1965, and also the career record for rebounds per game with 11.6. He held the school career scoring record for 16 years and the school career rebounding record for 25 years. He finished his four year career with 1,606 points and 984 rebounds.
In two of his seasons, Miller averaged better than 20 points per game. He tallied 21.3 points per game in 1965 and then the following season he capped his senior year with an average of 26.2 points per game, one of the highest averages in school history. His 551 points was a school record that remained unbroken until 1983.
Miller became a business education teacher at Middletown High School. He coached Middletown’s basketball team in 1970 and 1971 and guided those teams to a combined record of 37-8.
