Kelly Frick Herrmann is a two-time NCAA First Team All-American and a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Champion in the javelin, finishing in third place at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in both 2004 and 2005.

Herrmann is one of just three Raiders in school history to achieve two All-America First Team classifications in the javelin, along with Kate Poust (already in the SU Hall of Fame) and current school-record holder Morgan DeFloria. Herrmann is one of just 16 two-time First Team All-Americans spanning all events in SHIP women’s outdoor track & field history.

As a senior, Herrmann won the PSAC championship with a victorious throw of 147 feet, 9 inches that is just one foot off her own school record set the year before. She threw 146 feet, 9 inches at the NCAA Championships hosted by Abilene Christian to earn third place.

Her personal-best throw of 148 feet, 9 inches came as a junior in 2004, and stood as the SU school record in the event for more than a decade. It was achieved at the NCAA Championships, which resulted in a third-place national finish. Herrmann also earned All-PSAC honors that season with a third-place finish at the conference championships.

In high school, Herrmann played softball. She didn’t pick up a javelin until her time at Shippensburg in the spring of 2002. In her first full season of competition in 2003, she broke the school javelin record for the first time with an NCAA provision qualifier of 138 feet, 10 inches. She won the javelin competition at the Lock Haven Invitational and also placed second at Susquehanna.

After graduating with a degree in business management, Herrmann has spent the last 14 years working in the long-term care industry, holding various administrative and human resources roles. She is currently the human resources manager at Wesley Enhanced Living in Doylestown, a position she has maintained for the last four years.

Kelly is married to her husband Craig, and they have three children, Elsie, Lucas and Nolan. She is active in her church community and enjoys volunteering in her children's activities.
