A point guard for the women’s basketball team, Barb Schmit was one of the leading scorers in school history. She played a key role in the formation of the women’s softball team, helping to organize the team and working to bring it from club status to a full fledged intercollegiate sport.

In basketball, Schmit led the team in scoring during her freshman year in 1975. She tallied 153 points in 10 games for an average of 15.3 points per game. She was only the third player in school history to average better than 15 points per game up to that time. Schmit was a co-MVP on the team that year.

The Lady Raiders compiled a four-year record of 38-14 while she was on the team. Schmit finished her career with 471 points.

In softball, Schmit was a starting outfielder during the team’s first year as an intercollegiate sport in 1978. She hit .450 as the team compiled a 12-2 overall record. A native of Schuylkill Haven, Schmit became a research technician with Boise Cascade.
