Ann Everson-Maree of Reading, Class of 1986, set the Shippensburg University track and field record in the discus throw with a mark of 150-3, a feat she accomplished as a sophomore in 1984. She also set the team record for the shot put in 1986 with a toss of 41-3 1/4, a mark that would not be broken until 1991. She was the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champion in the discus in 1984.

 

Arriving in Shippensburg from Muhlenberg High School, Maree made important contributions to the team as a freshman in the spring of 1983.  She helped Shippensburg compile an 8-0 dual meet record. That record was the beginning of a dual meet winning streak that would extend to 40 consecutive victories. The Lady Raiders had a 33-0 dual meet record during Maree’s four years with the team.

 

Maree set her first team record in the spring of 1983 with a discus throw of 131-6. She finished fifth at the PSAC championships with a throw of 122-11. The following season she set the team record in the discus while helping the Lady Raiders compile a 12-0 dual meet record. She won the discus title at the conference meet with a throw of 140-9. That performance helped Shippensburg win the team championship.

 

In 1985 Maree had another impressive sesaon. She was team captain and helped Shippensburg go 7-0 in dual meet competition. For the third year in a row she placed at the conference championships, taking third place with a throw of 133-10. Shippensburg took third place in the team standings and Maree qualified to compete at the NCAA Division II national championships.

 

Maree was the Shippensburg MVP in her senior year in 1986. The team captain again, she led the team to a 6-0 dual meet record and a fourth place finish at the PSAC championships. She took second in the discus at the conference meet with a throw of 142-0.

 

Following graduation Maree entered the business world. She became financial consultant and Vice President for Soloman Smith Barney.  She also became involved with the Berks Ballet Theatre.
