George Hrubovcak was a tackle for the Shippensburg University football teams in the 1950s under legendary head coaches Vinton Rambo and Jack Roddick. Playing both offense and defense, Hrubovcak helped the Red Raiders compile four straight winning seasons. The teams he played on had records of 8-0 in 1953, 7-1 in 1954, 4-2-2 in 1955 and 6-2 in 1956 for a combined record of 25-5-2 and a winning percentage of .813.
Hrubovcak was a first team All-PSAC player in 1956, his senior year. In those years the All-Conference team was chosen from players representing all 14 teams as opposed to the current format where all-conference players are chosen from Eastern and Western Division teams.
During that 1956 season, the Red Raiders averaged 126.9 yards per game rushing while limiting opponents to just 129.4 yards per game rushing and 42.3 yards per game passing.
As a junior, Hrubovcak helped Shippensburg gain 199.1 yards per game rushing with 4.8 yards per carry, and 65.9 yards per game passing. The defense limited the opposition to a meager 72.9 yards per game rushing with only 2.0 yards per carry and just 57.9 yards per game passing.
In his freshman season, the team posted five shutouts and ran for over 1,800 yards in eight games, an average of 230 yards per game, while holding opponents to just 53 rushing yards per contest.
