John Hubley, the Executive Vice President of Shippensburg University, started serving his alma mater in the area of athletic administration in 1959. He has devoted much of his life to Shippensburg University athletics helping to bring about a situation where Shippensburg athletic teams have been able to compete effectively within the Pennsylvania Conference and the NCAA Division II without having to compromise the institution’s academic integrity.

A native of Shippensburg, Hubley played football and baseball for the Red Raiders from 1946-50. Elected captain of the football squad, Hubley was an outstanding guard, playing offense and defense.

In baseball, Hubley was a consistent performer at first base. During his three years of play the Red Raider baseball team had three winning seasons

After teaching and coaching in the high school ranks for several years, bringing a Central New Jersey State Baseball Championship to Long Branch High School (N.J), he moved to the collegiate ranks in an administrative capacity. At Millersville State College he was assistant dean of men and assistant football coach.

Hubley returned to Shippensburg University in 1959 and quickly moved up the administrative ladder. He also found time to serve as an assistant football coach in 1959 and 1960. In 1969 he was appointed the first Vice President for Administrative and Student Affairs.

In these positions he was in constant supervision at the intercollegiate athletic program at the University. He was actively involved in the planning of the modernization of Shippensburg athletic facilities, including the construction of Seth Grove Stadium and Heiges Field House and the recent reconstruction of the track at Seth Grove Stadium.
