One of the top performers in the history of the Shippensburg men’s swimming team, Brockway was a 12-time All-American from 1984-88 while winning three PSAC championship and a national championship in 1988. He set a school record in the 200-yard individual medley and is also ranked among the top-three in four events.
Brockway is one of five national champions in the program’s history, winning the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:50.42 at the 1988 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships. He finished his career with seven top-10 finishes at the national championships, including two fourth-place finishes in 200 and 400-yard individual medley in 1988 and a fifth-place showing in the 200 fly in 1985.
In addition to his individual accomplishments at the national meet, Brockway swam the butterfly leg on the 400-yard medley relay team which earned All-America honors four consecutive years. He also swam on the 800-yard freestyle relay team that earned four-straight All-America honors as well.
The Red Raiders placed no lower than 11th at the NCAA championships during Brockway’s four-year career, placing 11th in both 1985 and 1986, ninth in 1987 and sixth in 1988. Also during his career, Shippensburg finished second at the PSAC Swimming Championships each year which was a part of 12-straight runner-up finishes for the Red Raiders.
Individually, Brockway was a three-time conference champion while also serving as a member of Shippensburg’s 400-yard freestyle relay team that placed first at the conference meet in 1988, handling Clarion its first ever loss in the event. Brockway was also a conference placewinner in the 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 and 500-yard freestyle and 100 and 200-yard backstroke.
As a freshman during the 1984-85 season, Brockway placed second in both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly at the PSAC championships before taking fifth in the 200 fly at the national meet. The following season, he finished second once again in the 200 butterfly while adding a second and third-place showing in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, respectively. Brockway placed seventh in the 200 fly at the NCAA championships.
Brockway won the first two of three PSAC championships during the 1986-87 season as a junior, capturing the conference championship in the 200 fly and 200 IM. He also placed third in the 100 fly and qualified in all three events at the NCAA Division II Swimming Championships where finished eighth in the 200 fly, 10th in the 200 IM and 12th in the 100 fly.
Brockway capped a stellar four-year career as a senior during the 1987-88 season by capturing both the conference and national championship in the 200 butterfly.
