A native of Coatsville, Sister Marie Sharon Boyd of St. Agnes Convent in West Chester, lettered in softball four years.

Boyd, Class of 1983, led the Shippensburg softball team to second place in the 1982 Association o Inter-collegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) Division III national championship tournament. A pitcher, she compiled a 17-2 overall record with an earned run average of 0.92. She tossed five shutouts. Her record for wins set a school record.

Boyd was 1-0 as freshman in 1979 and then 2-5 as a sophomore. She began to develop into a star during her junior year when she had a 6-1 record with a pristine 0.50 earned run average. Boyd finished her career with a 26-8 overall record and a 1.16 earned run average. That career earned run average set a school record and is still one of the highest in university annals.

Following graduation Boyd was employed as a social worker for 10 years before entering the order of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. She served as a guidance counselor at Bishop Shanahan High School.
