Janice Weisgerber Regan of Harrisburg, Class of 1985, was one of the finest tennis players in Shippensburg history. At the time of her graduation she had the second highest total number of wins in team annals with 82. She also held the Shippensburg record for most consecutive doubles wins with 17.

Regan came to Shippensburg from Westminster, Maryland in the fall of 1981. She helped the Lady Raiders put together one of their best seasons in team history. Shippensburg compiled an 11-0 dual meet record and finished second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament. The Lady Raiders had defeated that year’s conference champ earlier in the season in head-to-head dual meet competition. Regan won the number four singles championship at the PSAC tourney.

In the fall of 1982 she teamed with Judy O’Connell to finish second at number two doubles. They would go on to win the number two doubles title in 1983 and help Shippensburg win its first ever conference tournament championship. In 1984 Shippensburg repeated as the PSAC champion and Regan won the conference title at number two singles and finished second with O’Connell at number one doubles.

Following graduation Regan pursued a career in business. She was a banking officer and branch manager with Meridian Bank in Reading, Pa. While in Reading she was active in Operation Facelift, the Hawk Mountain Boy Scout Council Fund Raiser, the YMCA Golden Rule Campaign, Magic in Mohnton, and she was a corporate calling representative for the United Way.

From 1993 to 2002 Regan lived in Ithaca, New York. Though busy raising her own two small sons, she was in charge of a Catholic Youth Group that established a relationship with a parish in the San Antonio de Padua parish in Monte Plata, Dominican Republic. The Youth Group established a computer lab in the parish center and taught English. Eleven high school students from Ithaca went with the group. The following year, in another trip to the same parish, Regan took children’s books in Spanish in order to establish a library. She also has been active in an ongoing effort to set up a day care center at the parish.
