Deb Flynn-Fritz was a defensive standout in field hockey and lacrosse. She was co-captain of both teams her senior season. She lettered for two years in field hockey and four years with the lacrosse team.
Fritz came to Shippensburg in the fall of 1980 from Royersford and helped the Lady Raiders maintain their reputation for tough defense. In all four season the team never allowed more than 1.3 goals per game in any one year. That year the field hockey team compiled a record of 12-4-2. The team finished second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament. The following year Shippensburg was fourth in the PSAC with a record of 7-7-2. The team went 7-6 in 1982 and 7-6-1 in 1983.
Defensively, Fritz helped Shippensburg limit the opposition to just 1.17 goals per game in 1980, 1.12 in 1981, 1.15 in 1982 and 1.29 in 1983.
In lacrosse, Fritz was an All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference first team player in 1983 and 1984 and was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player her senior year. Shippensburg had a four year record of 18-18-2 and the Lady Raiders were noted for their stingy defense.
Following graduation Fritz moved back to her hometown of Royersford. She is very active in the community and does service work for United Way and the Spring-Ford Youth Athletic League. She also has been active with Sunshine Foundation. Fritz is employed by Yellowbook USA where she is a quality control expeditor.
