Janette Pieczynski Goodman was a four-year regular and PSAC Scholar-Athlete on the Shippensburg University women’s basketball squad from 1997-2001 that posted a 105-21 record and won four consecutive conference championships and two NCAA regional championships.

Pieczynski ranks sixth in Shippensburg University history with 1,681 career points. Her 568 field goals is the eighth-highest total in school history and her 13.4 points per game average is the ninth-best mark in the SU record books. She scored in double figures in 89 of her 125 career games.

From the charity stripe, Pieczynski made at least 100 free throws in all four of her seasons – including a career-high 117 in the 1998-99 campaign. Her 427 career free throws ranks fourth in school history.

Her specialty, however, was forcing turnovers. Pieczynski holds the Shippensburg University school records for career steals with 379 and single-season steals with 114 in the 1999-2000 season. At the time of her graduation she was ranked 12th in NCAA Division II history for total number of steals in a career.

She also ranks eighth in career assists with 348 – a total that includes at least 80 assists in all four of her seasons.

Pieczynski made an immediate impact as a freshman in 1997-98 and was named the PSAC Western Division Rookie of the Year after averaging 11.4 points per game. She made 22 starts in her first season and scored in double figures 18 times.

As a sophomore, Pieczynski earned All-PSAC Second Team and All-ECAC Third Team honors after averaging 14.5 points per game. She scored in double figures 24 times – including 20 in the PSAC championship victory over IUP.

In her junior year, Pieczynski led the team in scoring with 15.1 points per game and achieved her school record of 114 steals – marking the first time that any SU player had ever recorded 100 or more steals in back-to-back seasons.

Pieczynski achieved All-PSAC Western Division First Team honors as a senior and was named the PSAC Tournament MVP after scoring 22 points in the PSAC semifinals and 25 points in the PSAC championship game. She led the team in scoring with 13.0 points per game and hit 30 three-pointers.

A native of Kingston and a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Pieczynski majored in biology with a concentration in Pre-Med at Shippensburg. She was employed immediately out of college by Johnson & Johnson, working seven years as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative. She is currently employed with Astellas Pharmaceuticals as a Hospital Sales Representative working with hospitals in the Baltimore metropolitan area.

Pieczynski married Josh Goodman ’02, a member of the football team in his time at Shippensburg. The couple has a two-year boy, Tyler, and is soon expecting a baby girl.
