Beible was a three-sport athlete at Shippensburg, participating in football, basketball and track and field.
His most significant contributions were in basketball where he scored 812 career points in 61 games for an average of 13.3 per game. His career total and per game average were the school records at the time of his graduation.
As a freshman during the 1938-39 season, Beible was the leading scorer for the Red Raiders as they went 7-7. Beible ended the season with 213 points in 14 games for a then-school record average of 15.2 points per game. He scored in double figures nine times and was one of the leading scorers in the state.
After starting the season 2-6, the team went on a five-game winning streak before losing the season finale at Indiana (Pa.). Beible scored a then-school record 27 points twice that season in a win over East Stroudsburg and a win over Shepherd.
However, the biggest win during the streak was a 42-37 win over Millersville, the defending conference champion. Prior to Shippensburg’s victory over the Marauders, Millersville had just one loss on the season and was undefeated against conference competition. Beible led the team with 12 points on Feb. 25, 1939 as the Red Raiders won their fourth-straight.
Beible also scored 25 points in a 44-35 loss to Bloomsburg on Jan. 20, 1939 in a game in which he accounted for 12 of Shippensburg’s 14 field goals.
In 1940, Beible was named All-PSAC Second Team in addition to receiving All-Pennsylvania Honorable Mention honors from the Associated Press. He led Shippensburg to a 7-8 record by averaging 12.1 points per game and scoring in double figures 12 times in 15 games with a season-high 18 points against Frostburg State.
The following season as a junior, Beible averaged 9.8 points over 17 games as the Red Raiders finished 8-9.
Prior to his senior season, Beible entered military service in 1941. After World War II, he returned to campus for his senior season in 1945. That year, Shippensburg had a 6-10 record under coaches Jack Stewart and Ed Gulian. Stewart led the team to a 5-3 record as interim head coach until Gulian returned from military service to coach the team in its final eight games.
Beible missed one game because of final exams, but tallied 250 points in 15 games to break his own school record with an average of 16.7 per game. He also became the first Shippensburg player to score in double figures in every game in which he appeared.
Beible ranked sixth in the state in points per game and scored 20 or more points in three games, netting a season-high 25 in a win over Millersville in the season opener. He also scored 20 in a win at Kutztown and 21 in a loss at Shepherd late in the season.
