Welcome
The Department of Sports Medicine is a comprehensive collection of allied health care professionals working in collaboration to provide the best possible health care to the student-athletes at Shippensburg University. A major emphasis by the Department of Sports Medicine is the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and student-athlete education of various sports related injuries and medical conditions.
Under the direction of supervising team physician, Dr. Thomas Steinour and the Director of Sports Medicine, Wesley R. Mallicone, the Shippensburg University Department of Sports Medicine provides services to 20 athletic teams comprised of approximately 450 student-athletes in addition to cheerleading.
The sports medicine staff includes five licensed athletic trainers and numerous work study students. These individuals operate three athletic training facilities located throughout Shippensburg's athletic venues as well as an on campus rehabilitation center located inside Heiges Field House.

Shippensburg University's Department of Sports Medicine, a collection of allied health care professionals, is dedicated to servicing the health care needs of nearly 450 student-athletes on 20 NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic teams.
The Department of Sports Medicine is dedicated to helping the student-athletes achieve their academic and athletic success while simultaneously ensuring their health and well being.
The Department of Sports Medicine is committed to creating a supportive environment that encourages trust, participation, open communication, collaboration, and respect among our student-athletes, coaches, sports medicine staff, physicians and university community, regardless of the student-athletes' sport, gender, race, ethnic, social or economic background.
The Department of Sports Medicine is committed to the delivery of consistent quality services in an efficient and safe manner, through the use of our modern facilities and incorporating the most recent developments in sports medicine which meets the needs of the student-athletes, coaches, sports medicine staff, physicians and university.
The Department of Sports Medicine is committed to constantly integrating the latest information concerning on-the-field emergency care, evaluation of injuries, rehabilitation, counseling and education for all of the Shippensburg University student-athletes.
Through these principles, we are committed to providing the best possible care for every student-athlete to ensure a lifetime of success in their lives and careers after departing Shippensburg University.
