Becky Fitz enters her 10th year as the associate director of sports medicine in 2021-22 and her 17th year overall as a member of the Shippensburg University sports medicine staff.

Fitz was named the Associate Director of Sports Medicine on Aug. 24, 2012. She had previously served as the assistant director of sports medicine since August 2007.

Since 2011, Fitz has served as the head athletic trainer for football at Shippensburg University. Fitz was away from the team in the fall of 2018 while on maternity leave and returned for the 2019 spring schedule.

Fitz is a nationally board-certified athletic trainer with a license in Pennsylvania and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association (EATA) and Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society (PATS). She is also a certified Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

At Shippensburg, she provides injury prevention, emergency care, treatment, and develops rehabilitation protocols for student athletes. Fitz also holds additional responsibilities in the sports medicine department - helping to administer physicals, providing medical coverage for summer athletic camps, and assisting with the drug testing of student-athletes.

Among her extracurricular efforts, Fitz has been active in campus initiatives such as National Girls and Women in Sports Day and the Pink Zone campaign toward breast cancer awareness. Fitz previously served as an advisor to Tau Kappa, a service sorority for female student-athletes. Her dedication to the Shippensburg University athletics department was recognized in April 2011 when she received the 2010-11 Raider of the Year award.

Most recently, Fitz completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training course at Jala Yoga in Shepherdstown, W.Va. Fitz provides regular yoga instruction to SU students, especially its student-athletes.Â

Fitz has a great deal of sports medicine experience to her credit, having served as an assistant athletic trainer and instructor at Catawba while also serving as a graduate assistant in the sports medicine department while at Shippensburg.

While at Catawba, Fitz served as the certified athletic trainer for the volleyball and baseball teams, and was an approved clinical instructor in the Athletic Training Education Program. In addition to her athletic training responsibilities, she also taught a nutrition class in the physical education department.

Fitz earned a bachelor of science in athletic training in 2004 from East Stroudsburg where she was a two-time captain of the Warrior track and field team and was an active member of the athletic training club. She completed her graduate work with a master of science in psychology at Shippensburg in 2006.

A native of Greencastle, Fitz currently resides in Chambersburg with her husband, David Icenhower. The couple are the proud parents of their newborn daughter, Maya.
