Sports Medicine Visiting Team Guide

We would like to welcome you, your team, and staff to our campus. We hope this page will help make your planning to Shippensburg University easier.

We look forward to your visit. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me or one of the other licensed athletic trainers.

Athletic Training Services Available for Visiting Teams
A licensed athletic trainer will be available for your athletic training needs before, during, and after your event.
    1. Therapeutic modalities will only be available if a certified athletic trainer accompanies your team.
    2. Please bring your own athletic training supplies and water bottles.
    3. Water and ice will be provided for each event.
    4. Please call at least 24 hours prior to the event for any special needs.

Take Interstate 81 South to Exit #16. Turn right on to Route 30 West and go past the Chambersburg Hospital. Turn right on to North 7th Street. Turn right in to the parking lot.

Take Interstate 81 north to Exit #45 (College St.), turn right onto Walnut Bottom Road. Turn right onto Alexander Spring Rd. at traffic light directly after McDonald's & Bonanza. Proceed to Medical Center on left. Follow signs for parking.

About SHIP Sports Medicine
The Department of Sports Medicine is a comprehensive collection of allied health care professionals working in collaboration to provide the best possible health care to the student-athletes at Shippensburg University. A major emphasis by the Department of Sports Medicine is the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and student-athlete education of various sports related injuries and medical conditions.

Under the direction of supervising team physician, Dr. Thomas Steinour and the Director of Sports Medicine, Wesley R. Mallicone, the Shippensburg University Department of Sports Medicine provides services to 20 athletic teams comprised of approximately 450 student-athletes in addition to cheerleading.

The sports medicine staff includes four licensed athletic trainers and several work study students. These individuals operate three athletic training facilities located throughout Shippensburg's athletic venues as well as an on campus rehabilitation center located inside Heiges Field House.
