Jerome Andrews lettered in four sports during his collegiate career at Shippensburg, lettering in football and basketball four years, track two years and baseball one year.

Andrews, a highly regarded football recruit for Coach Ed Gulian, arrived in the fall of 1939 from Tamaqua. A pre-season injury caused him to miss the first game. He came back to letter as a reserve halfback in the Raiders’ single wing offense.

In 1940 Andrews was a starter, scoring the one touchdown in a 6-6 tie at Slippery Rock. That weekend marked the first time the Raider football team traveled the new Pennsylvania Turnpike.

In 1941, he was one of the main stars of the team, leading Shippensburg to a 6-2 record. The Red Raiders shutout five opponents and came very close to winning the conference title. One of the leading ground gainers, he led the team in scoring with four touchdowns. He also threw a touchdown pass that clinched a 14-6 win over Lock Haven in the season finale.

In 1942, Shippensburg went 2-4 for the year. Andrews led the team in scoring with three touchdowns. He played five entire games except the season finale with Indiana: an injury kept him from returning to the game.

In basketball, Andrews was one of Shippensburg’s leading scorers. He scored 153 points his junior year, the second highest total on the team. He missed four games with an injury and still averaged 11.8 points per game.

Andrews’ senior season in 1943 was cut to nine games because of the war. Andrews played in seven games, scoring 74 points for an average of 10.7, before his reserve unit was called. Although a competitor in track, he never placed at the conference championships.

Following graduation, Andrews served in World War II with the 12th Armored Division in Europe as a tank commander and was wounded. After his discharge, he worked with the FMC Corporation as a salesman and then as the Eastern Regional Sales Manager for 39 years.
