Brian Cozzens led the Red Raiders to four straight winning seasons while rewriting the record book. The 1982 team set the school record for wins with 19 was ranked third in the nation in scoring defense, giving up only 56.9 points per game. He led Shippensburg to Pennsylvania Conference Tournament berths his junior and senior years.

During his career Cozzens set the career scoring record with 1,627 points and was the second highest rebounder in school history with 922. He also set school records for the most free throw attempts (623), the most foul shots made in a single game (16), a single season (157) and for a career (479). His career shooting percentage of 55.9 set a school record and his marks for total free throw attempts and free throws made set Pennsylvania Conference records.

Cozzens’ best year was in 1982 when he scored 541 points and pulled down 270 rebounds for averages of 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. He also had a season high 320 rebounds in 1980. His single best game was a 39 point outburst against Kutztown in his final home game at Heiges Field House in 1982.

Cozzens was also a standout student. He was an academic All-American three years in a row. He was on the first team Academic All-America in 1981 and second team in 1980 and 1982.

His hometown was Spring Grove and after graduation he moved to Mechanicsburg.
