John Scott was one of the best basketball players to ever play for Shippensburg. While he was a member of the team the Red Raiders enjoyed four consecutive winning seasons. During his senior year he led the team to the best record in school history at the time with a mark of 18-5.

During his freshman season lettering as a reserve, Shippensburg compiled a 12-8 record while scoring 75 points. He broke into the starting lineup as a sophomore and helped the team compile an 11-9 record. He scored 289 points and hit 49.6 percent of his shots from the field.

In Scott’s junior year he broke the school scoring record with 392 points. He was the number two rebounder on the team with 9.5 per game and he hit 47.4 percent of his shots from the field and 68.3 percent from the foul line.

The following season Shippensburg finished second in the Pennsylvania Conference. Scott tied his school scoring record with 392 points. He 54.8 percent of his field goal attempts.

During his career he scored 1148 points and was a first team All-Conference player in 1959 and 1960. At that time the conference had not split into Eastern and Western Divisions and there was only one All-Conference team.

Scott also excelled in track and field, lettering four times. He helped Shippensburg win the conference championship in 1959 and won three events in 1960. He was fifth in the 120 yard high hurdles, second in the high jump, the 120 high hurdles, and the long jump.

Since his graduation Scott taught at Chambersburg High School, in Colombia as a Peace Corps Volunteer, and at Cheyney University. Starting in 1974, the Harrisburg native became the Director of Bilingual/Bicultural Growth for the Harrisburg School District. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Uruguay during the 1966-67 academic year.
