Jennifer Neatrour-Kan was a formative presence on the first SU women’s tennis teams to qualify for the NCAA Championships in school history. She is a three-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Champion and two-time runner-up.

Kan is the first NCAA individual qualifier in school history, competing in singles as a senior in 1989 and in doubles with Karen Keffer that same year. It remains one of just five times in SU history that anyone made the NCAA Championships in tennis.

She graduated as SU’s all-time leader in victories (88), but was passed the next year by teammates Keffer and Marcie Staherski. She remains 11th in school history in the category.

At the PSAC Championships, Kan won the 1985 PSAC title in No. 2 singles as a freshman. She contributed to PSAC Championships in No. 1 doubles as a sophomore (with Kori Morrissey) and senior (with Karen Keffer). Kan was the runner-up in No. 1 singles as a junior and in No. 1 doubles as a freshman (with Morrissey).

Following the 1986 and 1988 seasons, Kan was named Shippensburg’s Team MVP.

Upon graduation, Kan dedicated her life to her passion of helping others as a teacher, coach, mother and wife. In 2001, Kan earned a master of science degree in education. She has taught in Johnstown, Pa., Ashburn, Va., San Diego, Cal., and Portsmouth, Va. – the latter of which she spent seven years teaching inner-city second graders. Kan has also coached or served as an assistant coach for the sports of baseball, soccer, basketball and tennis. She was named the Mission Trails League Tennis Coach of the Year while coaching at Seaside High School in California.

Kan is a proud spouse of a 30 year Navy veteran; she has crossed the country five times, and lived in six different military cities. With her husband Joe, the couple has three children and currently resides with her family near San Diego, Cal.
