Dr. Anthony F. Ceddia served as president and chief executive officer of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania from 1981 to 2005. This state-supported regional institution, serving 7,500 undergraduate and graduate students, is regionally and nationally recognized for the quality of its academic programs and its service to Pennsylvania and the region.

A Boston native, Dr. Ceddia earned his doctor of education degree in higher education administration from the University of Massachusetts and has completed post-doctoral studies at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He has a master of education degree in counseling and bachelor of science degree in education from Northeastern University.

Dr. Ceddia brings to his presidency more than 30 years of teaching and administrative experience and national recognition for his commitment to education. His academic experience began as a social studies teacher and counselor at Melrose, Mass., High School. He later was an adjunct professor at Salem (Mass.) State College where his father had taught earlier. He later served as an adjunct professor at North Adams State College in Massachusetts. Despite his workload as president, he continues to teach at Shippensburg.

His administrative experience has been a steady progression of positions leading to his presidency. That experience was gained at North Adams State where he served for nearly 10 years in such posts as director of financial aid and assistant director of admissions, director of admissions and financial aid, dean of administration, executive vice president and acting president.

In 1998, Dr. Ceddia attended the James McGregor Burns Leadership Academy at the University of Maryland where he remains a visiting professor. His experience there was instrumental in developing a similar academy in 2000 for Pennsylvania¹s State System of Higher Education. He now serves as the executive director of the State System¹s Center of Policy Studies and Leadership.

Dr. Ceddia¹s academic and administrative efforts have earned him national recognition and posts on several national organizations. He served or serves as chair of the education subcommittee for the Governor¹s Community Partnership for Safe Children and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. He has also served as chair of the National Army ROTC Panel and as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association¹s Presidents Commission. He is also a member of the Commission on Higher Education, Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, American Association of State Colleges and Universities, and Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Universities. Dr. Ceddia also serves on the Board of Directors of the Orrstown Bank and the SICO Foundation.

Dr. Ceddia received an honorary doctor of laws degree from North Adams State in 1990 for his service to education in Massachusetts. He is also the recipient of the Shippensburg University/Community Common Ground Award, Juvenile Court Judges Commission Award for Outstanding Service, Outstanding Higher Education Administrator in Pennsylvania Award, Distinguished Alumnus Award from Northeastern University an Outstanding Educator of America Citation and an Outstanding Young Man of America Citation. He also was named to Who¹s Who in America and Who¹s Who in the East.
