The Red Raiders placed no lower than 11th at the NCAA championships during Brockway’s four-year career, placing 11th in both 1985 and 1986, ninth in 1987 and sixth in 1988. Also during his career, Shippensburg finished second at the PSAC Swimming Championships each year which was a part of 12-straight runner-up finishes for the Red Raiders.

As a freshman during the 1984-85 season, Brockway placed second in the 200 free at the conference championships while also taking third in both the 500 and 1,650-yard freestyle. At the NCAA Division II Swimming Championships, he placed 10th in the 500 free. The following year, Brockway took second once again in the 200 free while placing fourth in the 500 free and seventh in the 100 free. He would go on to finish 15th at the NCAA championships in the 200 free.

Brockway posted three more top-five finishes at the conference meet as a junior during the 1986-87 season, taking fourth in both the 200 and 500-yard freestyle and fifth in the 100 free before placing 12th in the 500 free at the national meet.

During the 1987-88 season as a senior, Brockway had the best year of his career as he posted six top-10 finishes, three at the conference meet and three at the national championships. At the PSAC Swimming Championships, he placed fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle, seventh in the 200 free and 8th in the 500 free. Combined with his twin brother Chris, the Brockway brothers accounted for 22 All-American honors, three PSAC championships, two school records and one national championship. While each left their own mark on the program as individuals, they also teamed up to total four All-American honors in the 800-yard freestyle relay while also competing together in the 400 free relay.
