Julie Sutch Beddia was a standout point guard for the Lady Raiders from 1996-2000 who served as a team captain and starter for her final three seasons. Shippensburg won the PSAC Women’s Basketball Championship during all four of her seasons with the program, posting a record of 102-21 (.829) during that timeframe.
As a senior, Sutch was the point guard and the MVP of the PSAC Tournament, an award clinched after she tied a university record that still stands with eight three-pointers in the championship game against Millersville en route to a career-high 31 points. In the three games of the conference tournament that season, Sutch averaged 20.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while shooting 17-of-31 from the field (55 percent) and 13-of-21 from three-point range (62 percent).
Overall as a senior, Sutch averaged 10.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game from the point guard position. She shot 40 percent from three-point range for the season (51-of-142, a team-high) while averaging 9.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in PSAC Western Division play.
Sutch averaged at least seven points and four rebounds per game as a sophomore and a junior while also totaling at least 100 assists and 30 three-pointers in both seasons. She averaged 29.4 minutes per game during her career and shot over 38 percent from the field.
Sutch finished her career with 827 points (6.9 ppg), 469 rebounds (3.9 rpg) and 375 assists (3.2 apg). In addition to 126 career three-pointers, she was one of just two players to contribute 100 or more assists in three consecutive seasons at the time of her graduation.
At the time of her induction, Sutch ranked fourth in school history for career assists and is among the school’s all-time Top 10 career leaders in games played, steals, three-pointers and three-point percentage.
After her graduation, Beddia served as an assistant coach for the Lady Raider basketball team for two seasons (2000-01 and 2001-02).
