Jim Monos was one of the finest quarterbacks to ever play at Shippensburg. He also served his alma mater as an assistant football coach for 10 seasons.

The Shippensburg native came to Shippensburg University in the fall of 1970 after playing for two seasons at Virginia Military Institute.

Monos lettered in two sports at Shippensburg. In football, he was the first quarterback to ever complete more than 100 passes in a single season. He completed 105 passes in 230 attempts for 1,339 yards and 12 touchdowns in 1970. In 1971 Monos was injured during the sixth game of the year and forced to miss the remainder of the season. He completed 53 of 99 passes for 729 yards and six touchdowns.

In baseball he was an All-Region shortstop in 1971. In 13 regular season games, he hit .483 with 26 hits in 54 at-bats. He had six doubles, four triples and two homers. He also drove in 24 runs. In 1972 he was team co-captain and hit .303 for the season. He ended up with a career batting average of .379 and was an All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference selection two years in a row.

Following graduation Monos coached at Sussex Central High School in Delaware and at Chambersburg High School before joining the Red Raiders coaching staff in 1976. He was an assistant coach at Shippensburg until 1985 and helped the Red Raiders win conference titles in 1976 and 1981. Monos then became head coach at Lebanon Valley College.
