Hall of Fame
Briana “Bre” Schwartz (White) is one of the most decorated athletes in the history of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Field Hockey and is an archetypal figure in SU Field Hockey. She is one of only two players in school history to graduate as a four-time All-American – earning National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) First Team honors all four seasons.
Shippensburg posted a 75-10 record during her tenure with the team, qualifying for four NCAA Tournaments. Schwartz’s final collegiate action as a student-athlete was converting an overtime penalty stroke to score the game-winning goal in the 2013 NCAA Division II National Championship game, which secured Shippensburg University’s first NCAA title in any sport in school history.
Schwartz was the first player in school history to be named the NFHCA Division II National Player of the Year. She was recognized as a junior and senior. Additionally, Schwartz is one of just five players in school history to earn four All-PSAC classifications and one of just four to graduate as a four-time All-PSAC First Team player.
Among her many major awards include recognition as the 2013-14 SU Student-Athlete of the Year, 2012 PSAC Western Division Athlete of the Year and the 2010 PSAC Western Division Freshman of the Year.
Schwartz’s name remains all over the school record books. Her 45 career assists remain a school record and are third-most in PSAC history. She is fourth in school history (sixth all-time in the PSAC) for points (179) and fifth in school history for goals (67). Her career-high 15 assists as a sophomore in 2011 rank are the second-most in SU single-season history.
In January of 2013 and 2014, Schwartz was recognized at the Governor’s mansion by The Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) with a “Resolution Honoring the Accomplishments of Shippensburg University Field Hockey Forward Bre White for her remarkable achievements.”
A gifted student, Schwartz was named to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-America ® Women’s At-Large Division II Second Team. She graduated in May 2014 with a degree in social work and a 3.63 cumulative grade-point average. She went on to earn her master’s degree in social work from Temple-Harrisburg in 2016.
Schwartz is employed as a social worker at the Emergency Department at the Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center. The majority of her time is devoted to being a stay-at-home mom for her two very busy boys. Schwartz continues to play field hockey recreationally in adult leagues and tournaments as she loves to play the sport whenever she can. She is also an active member of LifePoint Church in Harrisburg.
She is married to her husband Ryan, who later worked as an equipment manager at Shippensburg (2018-19). The couple are the proud parents of two boys, Carter (born 2018), Crew (born 2021) as well as Pitbull mix daughter, Lacey.
