Curt Evans is the Shippensburg University outdoor school record holder in the pole vault at 16 feet, 7 inches – a mark that has remained unblemished for 24 years. He was an outdoor All-American in the pole vault as a senior in 1995, placing eighth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships held in Kansas.

Shippensburg won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Championship and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championship in all four of Evans’ seasons of competition, of which he was team captain for two years. He was a four-time PSAC place-winner in the pole vault, a three-time PSAC place-winner in the triple jump, and an eight-time outdoor conference place-winner overall.

As a senior (1995), Evans won the PSAC outdoor championship in the pole vault and the ECAC Indoor Championships in the pole vault. He also finished second in the triple jump at the ECAC Indoor Championships.

As a junior (1993), Evans placed third in the pole vault at the PSAC meet with a leap of 15-5, third in the triple jump with a distance of 46-8 ¼, and sixth in the long jump with a leap of 21-8. He also won the Bucknell Dual Meet with a vault of 15-0, the vault and triple jump at the Millersville Metrics with 15-9 and 46-0 ¾, respectively, and the vault and triple jump at the East Stroudsburg quadrangular with 15-6 and 45-5, respectively. He missed the 1993 ECAC meet because of illness.

As a sophomore (1992), he helped Shippensburg win the ECAC title by winning the pole vault with 14-6 and the triple jump with 46-6. At the 1992 PSAC championships, Evans finished second in the pole vault with a 15-0 leap and second in the triple jump with 47-4 ½. As a freshman (1991), Evans won the ECAC title in the pole vault and finished second in the event at the PSAC Outdoor Championships.

Shortly after graduation, Evans married fellow Shippensburg track & field standout Wendy Clark. The couple resides in North Carolina where they are raising their three boys, Cameron, Spencer, and Drew. Evans volunteers as a pole vault coach to local high school vaulters, including two of his boys Spencer and Drew. Spencer finished his junior year of high school by finishing second in the country (16-5.25) and breaking the North Carolina outdoor pole vault record. Drew finished his first high school season as the only freshman to qualify for the North Carolina ‘AAAA’ track meet (12-0).
