Laurie Gibble is one of the most accomplished pitchers in Lady Raider softball history, having accumulated numerous individual honors while helping to elevate the Shippensburg program among the ranks of perennial contenders in Division II.
The Lady Raiders finished with a winning record in each of her four seasons, posting a 110-41-1 mark and a winning percentage of .721 from 1989-1992. She finished her career with an earned-run average of 1.20, which ranks fifth in school history while her 63 career appearances is good enough for sixth in Shippensburg history.
She became a regular starter when she was a sophomore in 1990 and was named to the All-PSAC Eastern Division First Team after posting an ERA of 0.37 and a 10-1 record. The 0.37 ERA was the best mark in school history for 14 years and still ranks as the second-best single season total in school history. Her .909 winning percentage ranks fourth among career marks.
Her sophomore season featured an increased workload, as she appeared in 12 games while throwing 75.2 innings. The Lady Raiders finished that season with a 27-9 mark. As a freshman, Gibble had a 3-2 record and a 3.19 ERA.
As a junior, Gibble was 9-4 with a 1.00 ERA. The Lady Raiders once again saw an increase in team performance, as the squad finished with a 30-9-1 record. Following the season, she was honored as a member of the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team.
In 1992, she helped Shippensburg finish second at the PSAC Softball Championship and second at the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Region Championship. She finished the year with a 14-7 record and a 1.17 ERA and threw eight shutouts and 20 complete games.
Her durability was one of her primary assets. She is sixth in school history with 350 innings pitched and ranks seventh in both wins (36) and strikeouts (224).
