Dave Miller was a standout left-handed pitcher for the Red Raiders from 1979 to 1982.  Miller was a dominant starter in his final two seasons with the team after switching over from his relief role. He helped Shippensburg win the PSAC Championship in 1981 and earn NCAA Tournament berths from 1979-1981.

As a freshman in 1979, Miller made an immediate impact in relief for Shippensburg.  He compiled a 2-0 record while appearing in three games and 12 innings. He struck out 13 batters in his inaugural campaign.

In 1980, Miller saw action in five games and doubled his time on the mound by throwing 25 2/3 innings.  He was again 2-0 and had an earned run average of 3.16. The season would be a key transition year for Miller, as the following season he became a top-of-the-rotation starter.

The 1981 PSAC Championship season proved to be Miller’s breakout year as a Red Raider. He went 8-1 and struck out 56 batters in 65 2/3 innings of work. Miller also finished with a 2.06 earned run average, which ranked him 13th in the nation for the 1981 season. His banner performance of the year came on April 4 as he pitched a one-hitter against Mansfield.

As a senior in 1982, Miller went 6-2 and had a career-best 1.53 earned run average in 58 2/3 innings. He struck out 43 batters and appeared in 10 total games. Miller also tossed his second-career one-hitter on March 10 against Cortland State.

Miller finished his career with an 18-3 record for a winning percentage of .857.  He struck out 133 batters and solidified himself as a one of the most reliable pitchers of the decade. His 2.28 career ERA remains the third-best career mark in school history, while his mark of 6.67 hits per nine innings ranks fourth-best in school history.
