Hall of Fame
The late Jim Reddig has been designated as a special member of the Founder’s Committee of the Shippensburg University Athletic Hall of Fame. A native of Shippensburg, Reddig, as a member of the university’s Council of Trustees, was one of the founders of the Athletic Hall of Fame and he is being recognized for his leadership and support in helping to establish the hall.
At the time of his death on May 29, 1989, Reddig was serving as a member of the Shippensburg University Council of Trustees. He had been named to the Council of Trustees in 1981 and served as the council’s secretary.
Reddig had recently retired as general manager of the Shippensburg News-Chronicle, a position he held since 1961. He joined the News-Chronicle in 1949 as an advertising salesman and was promoted to advertising manager and treasurer in 1951.
Active in community affairs, Reddig was a member of the advisory board of Dauphin Deposit Bank in Shippensburg for nearly 20 years. He also was a director of the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association for four years, director of the American Red Cross’ Cumberland County Chapter, drive chairman of the Shippensburg Chapter of the American Red Cross, a past president of the Chamber of Commerce and a director of the Shippensburg Fair Association. He served on the Fair finance committee for 12 years.
In 1979, Reddig was the recipient of Shippensburg University’s Common Ground Award for his “contributions over the years to students, staff, faculty and administration” of the school.
Reddig was a U.S. Army veteran. He served during World War II from 1943 to 1946 with two of those years in the Pacific.
