Nate Reider is one of the most decorated and talented throwers in school history, having concluded his career with the 2007 NCAA Division II National Championship in the javelin. He finished as a three-time NCAA All-American – twice outdoors in the javelin and once indoors in the weight throw.
Reider finished his career as a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) place-winner in four different throwing events, a rare feat for a javelin specialist. He won conference titles in three different throws, and was a three-time PSAC place-winner in the javelin and the weight.
As a senior in 2007, Reider was named the 2007 PSAC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year. He won the NCAA Outdoor Championship in the javelin on a throw of 217 feet, 2 inches, after winning PSAC titles in both the javelin (211 feet, 1 inch) and the hammer throw (168 feet, 6 inches).
Indoors as a senior, Reider won the conference title in the weight throw and went on to earn All-America honors with a fifth place finish at the NCAA Championships. His top throws were nearly identical – throwing 61 feet, 6 ¾ inches at the PSAC Championships and 61 feet, 6 ¼ inches at the NCAA Championships. Reider also placed sixth at the PSAC Championships in the shot put on a top throw of 49 feet, 9 ¾ inches.
In 2006, as a junior, Reider won the outdoor conference championship in the javelin (211 feet, 7 inches) and placed seventh in the hammer throw (139 feet, 4 inches). He went on to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Championships – the first of his career – on a sixth-place throw of 215 feet, 8 inches. Indoors, Reider won a PSAC title in the weight throw (55 feet, 3 ½ inches).
Reider began at Shippensburg in 2005 after transferring from Mansfield. His sophomore season at SU featured a fourth-place indoor finish in the weight throw and a fourth-place outdoor finish in the javelin. He was a part of four PSAC team championships, as SU won outdoors and indoors in ‘05 and ‘06.
Academically, Reider exceled and graduated as a double major in entrepreneurship and marketing. He later earned his MBA from Shippensburg in 2009. After earning his MBA, Reider and his father started a now thriving business in York, PA called Xtreme Archery.
