Donna Miller Osbourne played a crucial role in Shippensburg’s drive to the AIAW Division III national championship in 1979. Despite playing hurt, she was the team’s top fullback and helped Shippensburg shutout the opposition 14 times in 21 games compiling a school record of 16 wins.
At the national championship tournament in Princeton, New Jersey, Shippensburg defeated Lynchburg (Va.) 1-0, Chico State (Cal.) 2-1, and Glassboro (N.J.) 1-0 before meeting Franklin & Marshall in the finals. The Lady Raiders won 1-0.
During her four years, Osbourne also helped the team set an undefeated streak school record of 27 games. The streak began in 1976 and ended in 1978.
Osbourne came to Shippensburg in the fall of 1976 from Millersville. During her freshman year Shippensburg was 8-3-3. The record was 11-0-2 during her sophomore year, 9-4 her junior year, and 16-2-3 the season the Lady Raiders won the national championship.
In addition to playing field hockey, Osbourne lettered for three years in lacrosse.
Following graduation, Osbourne taught second grade and coached a junior high program for hockey before becoming a homemaker with three children in Conestoga.
