Keith George lettered in baseball for four years and earned All-American honors his junior and senior years.
Originally from Harrisburg, George played third base, outfield, and designated hitter. In 1979 he led Shippensburg to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional championships and a berth in the NCAA Division II national championship series in Springfield, Illinois. The Red Raiders also received a bid to the NCAA Division II tournament in 1978 and 1979, finishing second in the region in 1978. In addition he was an All-Conference selection in 1976, 1977, and 1978 and was the most valuable player of the Sanford Tournament in 1978. George served as co-captain in 1978 and 1979.
George broke the starting lineup in his freshman year. He hit. 318 with 42 hits in 132 at-bats. He had one homer, drove in 12 runs, and scored 42. The following season he hit .312 with 45 hits in 144 at-bats. He scored 40 runs, hit four doubles, seven triples, two homers, and drove in 33 runs. His total for triples broke the school record at the time. In 1978 George had his best season at the plate with a .381 average. He had 40 hits in 105 at bats. He scored 40 runs, hit four doubles, three triples, three homers, and drove in 25 runs. During his senior year George hit .301 with 44 hits in 146 at-bats. He had 13 extra base hits, including seven doubles, four triples, and two homers. He scored 34 runs and drove in 33 others.
For his career George had 171 hits in 527 at-bats for a .324 average. He hit 17 doubles, 14 triples, eight homers, and drove in 103 runs. He scored 150 runs. At the time of his graduation George held the school career records for runs, hits, and triples. Today he is still ranked among the very top in those categories.
Since his graduation George has worked in private business. He became the vice president at Sedgwick James of Pa, Inc, an international insurance brokerage and risk management consulting firm in Harrisburg.
