Larry Wadel, a second basemen, was one of the best baseball players to ever play at Shippensburg. He was team captain for three years, from 1966 to 1968, and team MVP in 1966 and 1967. He had a career batting average of .356.

After graduation, the Chambersburg native coached and taught mathematics at Williamsport High School in Maryland and has won numerous championships through the years. In state championship competition his teams have won one state title and finished second three times. Williamsport also won six Region I championships. In cross country, Wadel coached two state champions.

Although out of school for more than 20 years, Wadel remained active with the Shippensburg baseball team. He was a vice-president with the Shippensburg University baseball Dugout Club, the main fund-raising arm for the baseball team. Also, he worked at the SU baseball summer camps.
