Peggy Mount was one of the top women’s tennis players in the PSAC from 1980-84. A two-time conference champion, once in singles and once in doubles, her 74 wins was the second-highest number of wins in school history at the time of her graduation behind teammate and doubles partner Linda Miller who totaled 76 from 1980-84.

As a freshman in 1980, Mount was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player as the Lady Raiders finished sixth at the PSAC Women’s Tennis Championship and had a 6-4-1 record.

In 1981, Mount served as team captain and helped the Lady Raiders post the program’s only undefeated season as they went 11-0 and finished second at the PSAC championship. Shippensburg lost to Slippery Rock, a team it had defeated earlier in a dual meet earlier in the season, by three points in the championship match. The Lady Raiders defeated powerhouse Bloomsburg and Mount finished second in the PSAC at number two singles.

The following season, Shippensburg was 8-1 and Mount was once again named team Most Valuable Player as she helped the team extend its winning streak to 17 consecutive victories. The only loss of the season was to eventual PSAC champion West Chester, a team that had competed on the Division I level the season before. Mount was 11-0 in singles competition going into the final at No. 4 singles, but finished as a runner-up for the second-straight year. Shippensburg finished third in the team standings.

During her senior year, Mount helped lead Shippensburg to its first PSAC championship in the fall of 1983. A team captain, she won her first conference title at No. 3 singles. Along with partner Linda Miller, she would also add a championship at No. 1 doubles.

In addition to tennis, Mount played two seasons on the women’s basketball team and three on the women’s lacrosse team. She was also an excellent student and in 1984, was the recipient of the Gwendolyn Baker Scholar-Athlete Award for the 1983-84 academic year.
