Linda Price earned seven varsity letters in two sports, field hockey and basketball. She also served as manager of the tennis team and was President of the Women’s Athletic Association and Tau Kappa Honorary Athletic Sorority in 1966.

Price made her biggest impact at Shippensburg as a field hockey player. Playing in the halfback position, her defensive skills helped Shippensburg enjoy four straight winning seasons. The team was 4-2 in 1962, 5-1 in 1963, 4-2-1 in 1964, and 7-1-1 in 1965.

The 1965 team only allowed eight goals in nine games, an average of just 0.89 per game, one of the best goals against average in school annals. Price was co-captain in 1964 and 1965 and was named MVP her senior year.

In addition to her athletic prowess, Price was the Pennsylvania delegate to the National Women’s Athletic Association in Lincoln, Nebraska, in the spring of 1965.

Following graduation, Price taught for four years in the North Penn School District, four years at the Rowland Lab School on the Shippensburg campus and 13 years in Carlisle. While teaching at Rowland she was an assistant field hockey coach for the University.

Price helped start the first national sorority on the SU campus (Alpha Sigma Tau), became the first advisor and took a national office for three years, opening new chapters on other campuses and over seeing other existing chapters. She received the outstanding Alumnus Award at the national convention in 1976. She also became an assistant chapter advisor to the sorority at Shippensburg.

In addition, Price worked for three years with the Little League in Shippensburg. She was in charge of the senior women’s division, working tournaments and traveling with the All-Star team to playoff games in Connecticut, Michigan, and Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Price served on the Shippensburg University Red and Blue committee, a group that helps manage the athletic fund-raising on campus.
