John Kuhn was a four-year starter at fullback for Rocky Rees’ hard-hitting Red Raider football teams from 2001-04 that posted an impressive 32-13 record.

Kuhn finished a storied career with 4,685 yards rushing, 910 carries, 53 touchdowns, 5,300 all-purpose yards and 26 games with at least 100 yards rushing, all of which are school records. In total, he graduated with 27 school records and four PSAC records. Of those conference records, his six rushing touchdowns in a 2002 victory over California (Pa.) remains the conference benchmark.

A Northeast Region finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy as a senior, Kuhn finished his Red Raider tenure with All-America honors from four different organizations – including American Football Coaches Association honors as a senior in 2004.

At the conference level, Kuhn was a three-time All-PSAC Western Division First Team selection and was named the PSAC Western Division Offensive Player of the Year in 2003 after a junior season that featured career highs of 1,500 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Add in one receiving touchdown and Kuhn’s 132 points that season resulted in him finishing as the NCAA Division II co-leader for scoring.

Kuhn’s senior season in 2004 included 1,487 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, as he averaged 5.1 yards per carry. SU reached the NCAA playoffs for just the third time in school history and finished with a 10-2 record. Kuhn was honored as an Associated Press Third Team All-American and earned honorable mention from both D2Football.com and Don Hansen’s Football Gazette.

Among the many remarkable accomplishments in Kuhn’s career includes 11 consecutive games with 100 or more yards rushing, a feat that began in his final eight games as a sophomore and stretched into his junior season, and a phenomenal 244 consecutive carries without a fumble. Kuhn broke SU’s career rushing record during his junior season and to this day, retains the Red Raider records for single-season and career production.

A standout in the classroom, Kuhn was a First-Team ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America in both 2003 and 2004 and was named First-Team Academic All-District for three-straight years. He was chosen as a PSAC Fall Top Ten Award winner as both a junior and senior, becoming the first Shippensburg male student-athlete to have received the award twice.

In the summer of 2003, Kuhn worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection as a lab technician. In the summer of 2004, he worked for Johnson & Johnson.

Kuhn signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in April 2005 and has remained in the NFL since, spending parts of two years in the Steel City before moving on to his current team, the Green Bay Packers.  Through seven seasons and 101 career NFL games, Kuhn has totaled 468 rushing yards and 412 receiving yards while scoring 19 touchdowns (with six more coming in the playoffs). In 2012, he was a Second Team All-Pro and was voted to the Pro Bowl squad. He also has two Super Bowl rings – one with each team.

John is married to wife Lindsey ‘06 (Incorvati), a former SU track sprinter and soccer player. The couple lives in Wisconsin.
