Diane Riddell Wetzel of Atglen lettered three years in basketball and one year in field hockey.
Wetzel was the Lady Raiders’ leading scorer in 1958 and 1959. In 1957, her freshman year, the team compiled a 7-3 overall record. She started the season playing junior varsity basketball but was promoted to the varsity near the end of the season. She scored an impressive 57 points in the last five games of the year.
The following season she scored 105 points in eight games, including 30 points in a game against Wilson. In 1959 she was elected co-captain of the team. She had high games of 23 points against Penn Hall, 20 points against Millersville and 36 points against Gettysburg.
Riddell graduated early from Shippensburg in January of 1960. The season did not begin until late January so she did not play what would have been her senior year. Riddell was active in the Women’s Athletic Association and a member of Tau Kappa.
She entered the field of education teaching business at Octorara High School.
