Jeff Teeter of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Class of 1989, was an outfielder on the Shippensburg baseball team. He was a first team All-American in 1988 and he set numerous team batting records. He helped the Red Raiders win Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships in 1986, 1987 and 1989. Shippensburg was the runnerup in the conference in 1988.

 

During his four years with the team Shippensburg put together records of 35-14, 39-11, 30-15-1 and 26-16. The team had a four-year record of 130-56-1 for a winning percentage of .698.

 

Teeter batted .349 as a freshman in 1986, .368 in 1987, and .441 in 1988. In 1989 he was hampered by injuries and missed eight games. His batting average dipped to .358. He was named to the All-PSAC first team that year.

 

Teeter’s career batting average of .385 set the team record at Shippensburg. He had 219 hits in 569 at-bats in 166 games.

 

Teeter also set career records for runs scored with 181, triples with 16,  stolen bases with 97, walks with 117, hits with 219, and total bases with 335. In addition Teeter hit 26 doubles and 22 homers. He collected 117 RBIs. Teeter was also noted for his fielding. In four years he only committed one error and finished his career with a .996 fielding percentage.

 

In 1988, his best season statistically, Teeter batted .441. That is the one of the highest single season batting averages in team history.   In 46 games Teeter rapped out a single season record 78 base hits in 177 at-bats. He scored 59 runs and drove in 51 others. He also had eight doubles, six triples and nine homers that season. Teeter was known for his batting eye and he walked 23 times and struck out just eight times. In the field he had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 94 putouts and one assist. At the end of the season he was named Most Valuable Player in the PSAC Eastern Division.

 

After his graduation, Teeter worked as the Safety Director for Bruce Barclay Electrical Contractor in Mechanicsburg. He also remained active in baseball playing for Mechanicsburg in the East Shore Twi-Light League.
