Hall of Fame
Claude “Bud” Larimer was a three sport athlete at Shippensburg University. He lettered in football, baseball, and basketball.
As a freshman, he played on the 1935 football team that won the Pennsylvania Normal School championship with an 8-1 record. He also served as captain of the basketball team during the 1935-36 season.
In football he played on the 1926 team that went 6-3 for the season. As a junior in 1927, he captained the team that went 4-4-1 and scored three touchdowns. The 1928 team went 4-4.
Larimer was the number two scorer on the basketball team in 1928. Shippensburg had one of its best seasons up to that time with an 11-5 record. Larimer scored 126 points that season in an era when there was a center jump after each basket.
The following season, the team was 7-10 and Larimer led the team with 153 points for an average of 9.0 per game. He also was the leading free throw scorer shooting an 80.9 percent from the foul line.
Perhaps Larimer’s best sport was baseball. As a freshman, in the spring of 1926 he helped the team win the Normal School state championship with a 9-0 record. The team went 4-2 in 1927. Because of rain, the 1928 team only played three games and went 2-1. Larimer hit safely in all three games and finished the season with 13 at bats, three runs, and six hits for an average of .461. Of his six hits, two were doubles, three were triples, and one was a home run.
Before retiring in Ebensburg, Larimer was the athletic director at Bedford High School.
