Al Bowman lettered in football and basketball but made his biggest impact on the gridiron. For many years Bowman held every school pass receiving record and still holds several.

After playing junior varsity football his freshman year, Bowman led the team in pass receiving his sophomore year in 1968 with 44 catches for 773 yards and six touchdowns. The following season he set a school record for pass receptions in a single season with 52. That record lasted until 1982 when it was broken by Jeff Zubia.

Bowman gained 604 yards and scored four touchdowns that season. He also set the single game record for pass receptions with 13 against Indiana (Pa.).

In 1970, his senior season, Bowman caught 45 passes for 595 yards and seven touchdowns. He finished his career with 141 receptions for 1972 yards and 17 touchdowns. He as an All-Pennsylvania Conference player three years in a row.

Though many of his records were broken by Zubia, Bowman played in fewer games. Bowman also set records for receptions per game for a career (5.87, 141 in 24) and yards per game for a single season (96.6) and a career (82.2)

Following his senior year, Bowman tried out with the Baltimore Colts and lasted until the final cut.

Bowman’s hometown was Lykens and after graduation he moved to Mechanicsburg.
