Lynn Miller of Mt. Joy lettered in tennis four years and softball for three. She is a native of Manheim and a 1980 graduate of Manheim Central High School.

Miller, one of SU’s best tennis players, helped the Lady Raiders win the conference title in 1983. She was the first Shippensburg player to receive an invitation to compete in post-season competition (AIAW East Regional, lost in quarterfinals) and was 1983 team MVP.

In 1981, Lynn reached the semi-finals in singles and doubles. In 1982, she won the PSAC crown at number two singles and reached the semi-finals in one doubles. In 1983, she was champion at number one doubles and runner-up at number one singles finishing her career with 76 victories, the team record then.

In softball Miller helped Shippensburg reach the finals of the AIAW softball national tournament in 1982. The Lady Raiders finished second in the nation with a 26-7 overall record. Miller hit .268 and was named to the national AIAW All-American first team.

The next year, Miller led the team in batting with .393, runs scored with 14, base hits with 22, and triples with four, tying the university record in the category. The following year Miller hit .262 and tied the university record for RBIs in a game with seven. She also set university records for doubles in a season with five. Her record for RBIs in a game is amongst SU’s highest.

After graduating, Miller taught at Middletown High School. In the past she coached a boys’ and girls’ tennis and girls’ basketball. Miller was an 1990 ASA All-American softball player and played for the Power Play team of Lancaster County in women’s fast pitch softball. Miller played against the U.S. Olympians in 1996.
