Alexandra Spak Meyer of Bel Air, Maryland, Class of 1993, was All-America pitcher for the Shippensburg softball team. She compiled a career record of 37-14 with an earned run average of 1.49. She threw 18 shutouts.

Spak Meyer’s best season was in 1993 when she was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division II All-America second team. She compiled an 11-4 record with a 0.75 earned run average. She had a team record 21:1 strikeout ratio with 126 strikeouts in 103 innings pitched and only six walks. Spak was also a first team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division choice.

Spak Meyer joined the Shippensburg softball team in the spring of 1990 from Pasadena, Maryland and Chesapeake High School. She had a 6-6 record with a 3.19 earned run average. She worked hard in the off-season and the following year she had a 13-4 won-loss record with a 1.08 earned run average. She hurled seven shutouts and was ranked eighth in the nation in strikeouts with 106 in 110 innings pitched for an average of 6.75 per seven innings. She led the PSAC in that statistical category.

An injury early during her junior year forced her to the sidelines. She had a 7-0 record with a 1.42 ERA when her season came to an end. Shippensburg went on to finish the season with a 33-12 record and finish second in the PSAC and the NCAA regional. Had she been able to pitch the Lady Raiders may have been able to win the titles that year.

In 1993 Spak Meyer rebounded and led Shippensburg to a 23-10 season. Spak was fourth in the nation among NCAA Division II pitchers in strikeouts and sixth in earned run average.

During her season Spak Meyer struck out 10 or more batters in four games. She set the school single game record for strikeouts with 13 in a win over Millersville on April 3. She tied that mark again on April 8 with a 5-0 shutout win over Clarion. She also struck out 10 in a win over Kutztown on April 6 and 11 in a 2-0 win over eventual conference champion Bloomsburg on April 13.

The key to Spak Meyer’s success was control. She set a school record by pitching 59 consecutive innings without giving up a walk. The streak came to an end in the last game of the season when she intentionally walked a batter in the PSAC tournament.

Spak Meyer set several Shippensburg University softball records. In addition to her single season record for strikeout to walk ratio, she had the single season record for fewest walks per seven innings with 0.40, and the career record for strikeouts per seven innings with 6.92. At the time of her graduation she held the career records for strikeouts with 343 and strikeout to walk ratio with 5.04:1. She also was the former single season record holder for strikeouts per seven innings with 8.56 in 1993.

In addition to her accomplishments on the softball diamond Spak Meyer was a Dean’s list student. She was a member of the Psi Chi National Honor Society and a Peer Educator.

Spak Meyer became a school psychologist for Anne Arundel County Schools in Maryland. She has worked at Northeast High School for the past eight years. Prior to taking the position at Northeast High School she was a school psychologist for the Deer Valley Unified School District in Phoenix, Arizona for two years. She taught and coached there for two years. Spak Meyer recently married her husband Jason Meyer.
