Upon his graduation, Terry Lauver of Hummelstown, Class of 1985, was the winningest wrestler in Shippensburg University history. A NCAA Division I All-American at 134 pounds, he set the Raiders’ career record for victories with 145 and the single season mark with 41.

A native of McAlisterville, Lauver came to Shippensburg in the 1980-81 academic year and he promptly set a new team record for most wins by a freshman with 27 victories. The following year he set the Shippensburg single season record with 41 wins. He also recorded the second highest number of pins in a season that year with 14.

In the fall of 1982 Lauver was injured early in the season and was granted a medical redshirt.

In 1984 Lauver qualified for the national championships for the first time in his career. At the national meet Lauver, who was wrestling at 134 pounds, won his first two matches before tangling with Scott Lynch of Penn State in the quarterfinals. He made a gallant effort before losing 10-9. It was the closest match of the tournament for Lynch, who would go on to win the national title in that weight class. Lauver lost in the consolation round, just missing All-America honors.

In his senior year Lynch won the NCAA East Region championship and went on to gain All-America honors by placing seventh at 134 pounds. Lauver opened the tournament by winning two matches before losing in the quarterfinals. After working his way back through the consolations he ended up seventh. Lauver won 29 matches that season to finish his career with 145 victories and 44 pins.

After graduating from Shippensburg, Lauver became employed as a first officer pilot with Atlas Air.
