Gayle Kuntzmann is the only four-time All-PSAC women’s soccer player in school history and one of just 12 players in school history to earn at least three All-PSAC classifications in women’s lacrosse. Kuntzmann etched herself in the record books for both sports spanning her time at Shippensburg from 2006-10.
Recruited to Shippensburg as a women’s soccer player, Kuntzmann finished her career ranked second in school history for career goals with 46 and career points with 110 and fifth in school history for career assists (18). She is one of just two players in school history to score nine or more goals in all four of her seasons, totaling 15 game-winning goals over the course of 68 career starts.
Kuntzmann is the only women’s soccer player in school history to earn three All-PSAC First Team classifications, doing so as a freshman, junior and senior. She was named to the All-PSAC Second Team as a sophomore. As a junior in 2008, Kuntzmann became the third player in school history to be named to the NSCAA All-Atlantic Region First Team after setting a career-high with 14 goals and equaling a career high with six assists.
Her 12-goal, six-assist campaign as a freshman in 2006 resulted in PSAC Eastern Division Rookie of the Year honors and NSCAA All-Atlantic Region Second Team honors and helped the Raiders reach the PSAC Quarterfinals for just the second time in school history.
Despite having only played one season of middle-school lacrosse entering college, Kuntzmann tried out for the lacrosse team and made the squad as a freshman in 2007. By the end of her four-year career, Kuntzmann graduated with the school record for career caused turnovers (124) and career groundballs (206) while also scoring 82 goals and recording 84 draw controls.
As a sophomore in 2008, Kuntzmann led the nation with 80 groundballs, setting a single-season school record. Those 80 groundballs, a team-high 31 caused turnovers, 20 draw controls and 13 goals resulted in her first of three consecutive All-PSAC First Team classifications. To this day, Kuntzmann is one of just four players in school history to earn three or more All-PSAC First Team classifications along with Courtney Colbert, Valerie Hertz and Liz French.
As a junior in 2009, Kuntzmann led the team in scoring with a career-high 36 goals in addition to leading the team with 58 groundballs and a career-high 40 caused turnovers. She also tied for second on the team with eight assists and with 25 draw controls. The Raiders posted a 9-8 record, marking a five-win turnaround from the previous season.
Her senior season in 2010 featured 33 goals, a career-high 43 caused turnovers that ranked fourth in the nation, 47 groundballs and 35 draw controls. It resulted in her first all-region classification with a 2010 IWLCA All-South Region Second Team honor.
To this day, Kuntzmann ranks second in school history for career caused turnovers, third in career groundballs and seventh in career draw controls (84) while also ranking among the Top 30 goal scorers in school history. Her extracurricular activity at Shippensburg included intramural basketball and four years with the Tau Kappa (TK) Women’s Athletics sorority, serving as the organization’s vice president as a senior.
Following her graduation, Kuntzmann was signed by the Boston Aztecs, the reserve squad for the Boston Breakers of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL), and was with the team during the 2011-12 season. She has remained active in the sport since finishing her semi-pro season, actively participating in co-ed leagues.
Kuntzmann earned her undergraduate degree in marketing. She has worked for the last five years for Spinnaker Search Group, LLC outside of Philadelphia, working as an Operations Manager and a member of the company’s Executive Leadership Team. Gayle resides outside of Philadelphia with her wife and newborn son.
