Stacey Cunningham-Dellinger, Class of 1984, an All-American from York, set several school and national records while playing for the Shippensburg University women’s basketball team.
A 5-7 guard, Cunningham-Dellinger set NCAA Division ll national records for highest career scoring average with a mark of 23.1, highest single season scoring average with a mark of 29.9 in 1983, most free throws attempted and made in a single game with 21 of 22 against west liberty in 1982.
In addition to those records, Cunningham-Dellinger set school records for most points in a single game with 44, a feat she accomplished three times, most points in a single season with 658 in 1983, and most points in a career with 2,057. She also set the single season and career records for highest shooting and free throw shooting percentage. In all, she set 32 school records , including three for her defensive skills, most steals in a single game (12), season (108) and career (345).
Cunningham-Dellinger played in 89 games for Shippensburg during her career. She scored in double figures 84 times, including a stretch of 51 in a row. She led Shippensburg in scoring four straight seasons with an average of 16.3 in 1981, 26.4 in 1982, 29.9 in 1983 and 19.4 in 1984.
Though hampered by a stress fracture suffered in the Olympic trials in the summer of 1983, Cunningham led Shippensburg to one of it best seasons ever in 1984. The team set a school record for wins with 18 and finished second in the Pennsylvania conference tournament.
Cunningham-Dellinger was a first team All-American selected by fast break magazine in 1983 and a first team Kodak All-American in 1984.
After graduation, Cunningham-Dellinger taught and coached in the Dallastown School District.
