Ken Pickett was an All-American linebacker for the Red Raider football team from 1989-91 who graduated with the school record for career tackles (455) after leading the team in all three of his active seasons as a starter.
As a senior, Pickett earned AP All-America Second Team honors after setting a school record with 182 total tackles from his linebacker position in addition to 13 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. His performance allowed him to be considered as a nominee for the Harlon Hill award – Division II football’s equivalent to the Heisman Trophy.
The 1991 season was a memorable campaign in which Shippensburg went 9-2 in the regular season and traveled to defeat East Stroudsburg in a NCAA playoff matchup, 34-33 in overtime.
During his junior season, Pickett was a unanimous choice for All-PSAC Western Division honors after totaling 171 tackles – which was two short of the school record at the time – while leading the conference with seven interceptions. That feat established a new SU record for interceptions in a season by a linebacker that remains to this day. His 14 tackles for loss in 1990 led the team.
His sophomore season was his first in a Red Raider uniform. Pickett led SU with 102 tackles, recorded two pass breakups and two quarterback sacks while recovering two fumbles. He is one of just two players since 1970 to lead the Red Raiders in tackles in three consecutive seasons.
Overall, Pickett remains third in school history for career tackles and was an integral part of a four-year group of Red Raiders that posted a 26-18-1 record.
A native of Ocean Township, N.J., Pickett came to Shippensburg after playing at Ocean Township High School in 1988. He is married to wife Kasey. The couple has two children: Alex and Kenny. The family still resides in Ocean Township.
For the past 14 years, Pickett has been working for the Estee Lauder Companies as an Executive Director of its North America Supply Chain based in Bristol, Pa.
