SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's swimming team won nine of the 11 events Friday as it returned to action with a memorable Senior Night in which it recorded a decisive dual-meet victory over fellow PSAC school Edinboro from Donald N. Miller Pool.
 
The Raiders received a bevy of strong performances on the night, including three individual victories from junior Rikki Sargent and two wins by junior Carolyn Meier. Sargent won the 200 IM (2:16.88), 100 butterfly (1:01.66) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.18), an impressive triple, while Meier notched the top times in the 50 freestyle (25.16) and the 100 freestyle (54.06), out-touching Edinboro's Staci Schrecongost in the latter by .02 seconds.
 
Senior Tara Yohe triumphed in the 1,000 freestyle, swimming 10:56.22, and finished .02 seconds shy of a victory in the 500 freestyle after a time of 5:26.79. Claiming victory in the 500 freestyle was freshman Jeanette Welch, whose strong swim of 5:26.77 came from lane six.
 
Freshman Rhyan Rodriguez was the victor in the 100 backstroke (1:03.04) by just .03 seconds over senior Jess Trgovic (1:03.07). Freshman MacKenna Angert took second place in the 200 freestyle (2:01.06) with Welch finishing in third.
 
Freshman Nollaig Noll claimed runner-up finishes in the 50 freestyle (25.90) and 100 butterfly (1:02.33) behind her teammates while swimming the opening leg of the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay that featured Yohe, senior Jen Flinchbaugh and Angert.
 
SU honored its six seniors before the meet: Yohe, Trgovic, Flinchbaugh, Kate Diltz, Devon Perugini and Abbie Brumback. Perugini swam the 50 freestyle and in both relays, Diltz competed in the 100 and 200 freestyles and Brumback completed the 1,000 freestyle and anchored the 200 freestyle relay 'B' squad.
 
Shippensburg returns to competition Saturday, January 24 with a noon dual meet at Davis & Elkins.
