Men’s Swimming Notches Eight Conference Qualifiers on Day 2 of Home Tri-Meet

SU takes second in 200 medley relay and gets several solid performances

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's swimming team recorded eight-conference qualifying performances Saturday as it wrapped up the second day of its home tri-meet with Southern Connecticut State and West Chester from Donald N. Miller Pool.

Among the strong swims was a spirited effort in the 200-yard backstroke by freshman Ethan Jacobsen, who posted a time of 2:00.41. Senior Tyler Robertson notched his qualifier in the event by swimming 2:08.90.

Junior Stefan Szilagyi had a nice early-season time in the 100-yard butterfly of 53.39 seconds, with Jacobsen also surpassing the league standard with a time of 55.65 seconds.

Junior Jake Dunnigan finished third in the 200-yard IM (2:04.04) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.94) for a pair of qualifiers – both he and Jacobsen achieved multiple PSAC cuts on each day of the meet this weekend.

Freshmen Nick Francis and Kristian Voulopos satisfied the 50-yard freestyle standard with respective times of 22.42 and 22.50 seconds.

SU's 200-yard medley relay of Jacobsen, Dunnigan, Szilagyi and Robertson clocked in at 1:40.03 for a second-place swim, while the 400-yard freestyle quartet of Robertson, Voulopos, freshman Mitch Kline and Francis finished in 3:17.97.

The scores of the dual meet had the Raiders edging the Owls, 186-146, but trailing the Golden Rams.

Shippensburg returns to action on October 31 when it travels to California (Pa.) for an evening dual meet with the Vulcans.
