SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's swimming team kicked off the 2018-19 campaign Saturday with a late-September dual meet with Gannon, posting the fastest times in four events en route to a 108-96 victory over the Golden Knights from Donald N. Miller Pool.
 
Senior Carly Alvarado and freshman Tomomi Nakano posted times that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying standards. Alvarado won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.54, while Nakano was first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.50 seconds.  
 
Freshman Olivia Guthy won two events in her debut, beginning with the top time in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:33.73) before following that up with a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:36.34).
 
To conclude the meet, Guthy teamed with sophomore Kayla Sudbrink, freshman Madison Breiner and sophomore Mari Reott for a 200-yard freestyle relay time of 1:44.71.
 
The Raiders had numerous second-place finishes. Breiner was one spot behind Guthy in the 500-yard freestyle (5:37.14) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:35.49). Freshman Bri Joll (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) was the runner-up in the 200-yard IM (2:19.21); Sudbrink narrowly missed a PSAC cut in the 100-yard freestyle (56.40), and Reott finished the 100-yard butterfly in 1:03.51.
